Ha’Penny and the Spire

Did you know: The Ha’Penny bridge isn’t actually called the Ha’Penny bridge… it’s called the Liffey Bridge, that is its’ official name, and it was originally called the Wellington Bridge. The name Ha’Penny bridge was just what it was commonly and unofficially called by the public. Since then, that stuck.

I’ve always tried to shoot the Liffey (Ha’Penny) bridge in its’ entirety, but this time I wanted to do something different. I liked the scene with the spire in the background and the illuminated buildings.

Samuell Beckett Bridge and Jeanie Johnston

Samuell Beckett Bridge and Jeanie JohnstonIt’s been a long time since I did a proper photo walk around Dublin, especially up and down the Liffey. I really enjoy shooting Dublin city centre but it has been almost 12 months to the day since I last was out properly. Tonight was still, very still, cold, but clear(ish) and for the first time in a long time seemed to have nothing looming on the schedule that needed to be done. For the last few weeks I had been itching to get out and take some photos somewhere as I was becoming ever concious that it had been a while since I had been out shooting anything really….

After it having been so long shooting in Dublin I felt rusty, and decided to take it real slow and think about everything I was doing. This is one of my favourite shots from the night. A subject I have shot previously, but this time I wanted to do something different.
