Dublin Bridges

This is a shot i have taken before. But never this close up. I’ve had my 200mm for a while but never seemed to use it here, or maybe it’s just been a while since I was shooting this scene and had the 200mm with me? I don’t know.. but anyway, I had it now and decided to give it a go as I was getting tired with the wider angle scenes… So anyway, I am astounded with the amount of foreshortening that is acheived in the shot! The IFSC looks like it’s on top of O’Connel bridge! and the distance between the bridges just becomes irrelevant! As unfortunate as it is, I love the slight symettry achieved with the two homeless people sitting on either bridge. It’s sad, but the sight of a homeless person sitting in the middle of these bridges has become slightly iconic as a scene in Dublin. I like the close crop in this shot, what are your thoughts?

Jurys Inn, Sean O’Casey Bridge, Convention Centre and Samuel Beckett Bridge, Dublin

Jurys Inn, Sean O'Casey Bridge, Convention Centre and Samuel Beckett Bridge, Dublin

I didn’t know the name of the pedestrian bridge in this shot, now I do, the Sean O’Casey Bridge. I had to look it up, it was designed by architect Cyril O’Neill and O’Connor Sutton Cronin Consulting Engineers. It was built in 2005 and won a Pedestrian Bridge award. It was opened by Bertie Ahern in July 2005. Now for ya, something ya didn’t know!

Don’t put up with this pitifully small image that flickr provides though.. check it out here on 500px to see a nice bigger version…

Samuell Beckett Bridge and Jeanie Johnston

Samuell Beckett Bridge and Jeanie JohnstonIt’s been a long time since I did a proper photo walk around Dublin, especially up and down the Liffey. I really enjoy shooting Dublin city centre but it has been almost 12 months to the day since I last was out properly. Tonight was still, very still, cold, but clear(ish) and for the first time in a long time seemed to have nothing looming on the schedule that needed to be done. For the last few weeks I had been itching to get out and take some photos somewhere as I was becoming ever concious that it had been a while since I had been out shooting anything really….

After it having been so long shooting in Dublin I felt rusty, and decided to take it real slow and think about everything I was doing. This is one of my favourite shots from the night. A subject I have shot previously, but this time I wanted to do something different.

Snap from iphone at the time…hmmm, thought the iPhone camera was supposed to be the best camera ever! guess not… look at the difference!
